about Suwanee, GA*
Suwanee is a suburban city just a few miles north of Atlanta.
Suwanee was originally inhabited by the Shawnee Indians and
later the Creeks and Cherokees who eventually lost the land to
white encroachment. No one can say for sure where the name Suwanee
came from. It probably was an Indian word, but it might also have
been a mispronunciation of Shawnee. Either way the city is known
as Suwanee today. The city grew slowly and remained an
agricultural area for most of its history. Later Suwanee became
famous later as the training ground for the Atlanta Falcons
football team. Suwanee is now going through its greatest
growth ever and thanks to careful planning and concerned citizens
the city is growing in positive directions with a future that is
starting now.
